Cutting dimensional weight charges with right-sized boxes
May 11, 2026 · 4 min read · Custom Boxes Co. studio

Dimensional weight converts a parcel's volume into a billable weight. If your box is bigger than the product needs, you are paying to ship air on every order.
Measure your ten best-selling products and group them into three or four size bands. Most catalogues collapse neatly into a small set of box sizes.
Removing 2cm from each dimension of a mid-size mailer can cut billed weight by a fifth, and it removes void fill from the pick line at the same time.
Custom sizing has a tooling cost, but it is a one-time charge amortised over every parcel you send afterwards.
